The first thing to know...

is that EscoTalk is FREE! You can download it from the download page at this web site. If you would rather have the product on a CD, then we can supply this for £10, which covers the media cost, post and packaging, and VAT. Please use the "Contact Us" link on the Home Page to email us and we'll advise how to proceed.

What is it?

EscoTalk is a software program designed to improve web site browsing, and to provide several other facilities, for the sight-impaired user.

As the name suggests, speech is involved. This is optional though, as text is displayed in any size and colour you choose, on a background colour of your choice. If you turn on the speech facility, then text is spoken (in U.K. English) at a speed you can adjust to suit. Text can also be spelled, to make things easier still.

As we said earlier, our software uses Internet Explorer to display web pages as text only. If you don't have Internet Explorer, this can be downloaded free of charge from Microsoft's web site.

Does it work on all web sites?

You can copy text from any program and have it displayed and spoken. In addition, web sites can use additional commands to have all their content available through Escotalk. One such site is www.minutes.org.uk where users may access Local Authority committee documents such as Agendas, Minutes etc.

Anything else?

You can copy text from any application using the normal edit technique, then paste it into the EscoTalk program. The text will be displayed (using the text sizes, colour and backgrounds you have set up) and spoken. It can also be spelled out.

Date and Time?

You can have the date and time (using the 12 hour clock, with a.m. and p.m.) spoken.

Pronunciation?

We distribute a dictionary for use with the product. If you have any words which are not being pronounced correctly, let us know and we will consider them for inclusion.

Read E-mail?

If you use Microsoft Outlook, then EscoTalk will read any e-mail messages in your "in box". Sender, subject, data and time sent will all be spoken. You can then choose to ready the body of the message, or go to the next message.
